Sewer Control

Martin Bazley has also updated his Sewer Control WAD to for use with Doom, you can download Release 3 from here.

In this new version:

  • Added a tag number to the teleporter instead of relying on the landing being the only one in the level!
  • Rebuilt nodes with BSP.
  • Reformatted .TXT file.
  • Changed the file name to "SWRCTL.WAD" to bypass the 10 character limit in old RISC OS filing systems
It seems a bunch of demons has invaded the sewer control system, and have plans to flood the city with raw sewage! After a bit of straw-drawing, you have been sent in to get rid of them. Unfortunately, they could only find a pistol to arm you with. You think it'll be easy. You wish.

The Catacombs

Martin Bazley has updated his Doom WAD, the Catacombs to Release 2. You can download this new version of this awsome WAD from here.

In this new version:

  • Fixed ceiling height of first teleporter.
  • Rotated step texture in exit room.
  • Added a Supercharge, but you have to know where to look.
  • Texture realignments and replacements.
  • Changed light levels in dark room to be more realistic.
The Catacombs is centred around a tiny, winding, ever- changing system of tunnels. The difficulty levels are intentionally easy; in the future this WAD will form the first level of a replacement episode for Doom. However, there are lots of puzzles to make up for it.

Hex-A-Hop Review

The RISC OS port of Hex-A-Hop is the work of Herbert Krammer and a nice job he's done too.

Taken from the official site "Hex-a-hop is a puzzle game based on hexagonal tiles. There is no time limit and no real-time elements.

The objective is simply to destroy all the green hexagonal tiles on each of the 100 levels. As you progress through the game, more types of tiles are introduced which make things more difficult and interesting."

The graphics are rather nice, and I quite like the moving water effect. The 100 levels kept me playing for many an hour, and I must admit, I used some hints on the later levels.

I can't comment on the sound, as I currently have a problemo with the sound on my RISC OS machine.

If your in to fast paced action shooters, then look away but if your a puzzle fanatic, this is right up your street!

Hex-A-Hop for RISC OS needs a minimum of a StrongARM RiscPC to be playable, and has also been tested on an A9Home.

                                                                             Overall, I give this game:

                                                                                          7 / 10

SFSkyEdit 1.45

Christopher Bazley has updated SFSkyEdit to version 1.45, you can download it from here

SFSkyEdit is an editor for Star Fighter 3000 sky colours files.

A sky file (in "Landscapes.Sky") contains the colours used to paint a particular type of planetary atmosphere (e.g. sunset, morning, night, gas clouds etc). This application allows you to edit these colours or define colour shades for new skies.

SFSkyEdit has a sophisticated selection model for colour bands. Copy/move operations may either be done using the clipboard or through a drag & drop interface. Changes to sky files can be observed in real time using the preview window, which renders the sky as it would appear in the game. Multiple files may be edited simultaneously, and accessed from the iconbar menu.

SFColours 1.55

Christopher Bazley has updated SFColours to version 1.55, this new version fixes a very minor bug. You can download it from here.

SFColours is an editor for Star Fighter 3000 colours files.

A colours file (in "Landscapes.Palette") holds the physical colour numbers to assign to the 320 logical colours used on polygonal objects in the game. A hill colours file (in "Landscapes.Hill") contains the 36 colours that are used to plot hills of a certain terrain type.

Starfighter 3000 Utilities

Christopher Bazley has updated all of this Starfighter 3000 utilities,  The most significant change is that SFtoSpr can now decode and create sky colours files, which allows access to the raw pixel data (unlike SFSkyEdit, which works at a higher level).

SDLThrust port

Alan Buckley has releasedhis port of SDLThrust for RISC OS, you can download Alan's latest work from here.

The object of the game is to lift the Klystron Pod from the bottom of a cave and return it safely to space. The Pod is very heavy (compared to the ship) and this makes it tougher than it may seem.

You must be careful not to run out of fuel, crash into the cave walls, or let the enemy artillary outposts shoot you down.
