Possible Upcoming Titles: Oblivion and Rise of the Triad!

There is a strong possibility that R-comp Interactive will be publishing a side-scrolling shoot 'em up by Jack Parkinson in the very near future. The current version is fully playable on RiscPC computers.

R-comp have also announced that a port of the Wolfenstein 3D-style game Rise of the Triad is near complete but have not announced whether they will release it.

Watch this space for more information on these upcoming titles from R-comp Interactive.

SFColours and SFSkyEdit

Chris Bazley has made a couple of bug fixes to the handling of drag and drop in his sky and polygon colours editor applications SFColours and SFSkyEdit and uploaded them to his website.

SFColours is an editor for Star Fighter 3000 colours files.

A polygon colours file (in "!Star3000.Landscapes.Palette") maps the 320 logical colours used for polygonal objects in the game to the 256 colours which are actually available in screen mode 13. The extra 64 logical colours are used for flashing lights and different ship liveries. A hill colours file (in "!Star3000.Landscapes.Hill") contains the 36 colours that are used to plot hills of a certain terrain type.

In terms of practical uses of this editor, how about these suggestions:

  • Designing a cool new livery for your Predator fighter.
  • Creating mountain colours for a new type of landscape (such as desert), in conjunction with SFToSpr to create a new map tile set.

SFSkyEdit is an editor for Star Fighter 3000 sky colours files.

A sky colours file (in "!Star3000.Landscapes.Sky") specifies the colours used to paint a particular type of planetary atmosphere (e.g. sunset, morning, night, gas clouds etc). This application allows you to edit these colours or define new skies.

SFSkyEdit has a sophisticated selection model for colour bands. Copy/move operations may either be done using the clipboard or through a drag & drop interface. Changes to sky files can be observed in real time using the preview window, which renders the sky as it would appear in the game. Multiple files may be edited simultaneously, and accessed from the iconbar menu.

R-comp Abuse

R-comp are selling digital copies of Abuse for £12.00, the boxed copies are still available for the price of £25.

Ever thought you'd want to play a 2D platform version of Doom or Quake? Then this is the closest your going to come across! It's definetely not an averge platformer though, it's got brilliant graphics and amazing sound effects just to name a few. The game will play on almost any RiscPC(SA) or A7000(+) and may work with Iyonix and A9Home computers with Aemulor Pro. In theory, the game will also play on RiscStation and Microdigital machines too.

The game is very neatly presented, you can save your game positions, you can switch straight back to the desktop after play and it also contains a level designer so you can make your own levels!

The digital and boxed copies can be bought by emailing rci@rcomp.co.uk or by checking out the website at: http://www.rcomp.co.uk.

Pipe Night Dreams

Alan Buckley of Battle for Wesnoth fame has ported Pipe Night Dreams from the Linux Operating System. Pipe Night Dreams is a Pipe Dream or Pipe Mania clone where the player must create a path from the start piece for the onrushing sewer goo, which begins flowing after a time delay from the start of the round. The flooz is required to pass through a given number of pipe pieces in order for the player to pass to the next round. Some rounds also include an end piece, which must be the end of the pipeline the player has constructed, in addition to fulfilling the minimum pipe length requirement. If the player manages to complete the sewer pipeline in the time allotted, then he goes on to the next level, which earns him a shorter interval from the start of the round until the flooz starts flowing, and also a faster-flowing flooz. On higher levels, some special pipe pieces appear in the queue, such as reservoirs, one-way sections, and bonus sections. Obstacles and wrap-around sections also appear on the game board on higher levels. Also, if a player is able to finish the level using five cross-section pieces and filling them both ways, 5,000 bonus points are awarded. You can download this wonderful new game from here.
